Keeping Everyone Safe

Welcome to Los Angeles! As we begin our 46th International Convention, we wanted to share a few tips about emergency preparedness here in the convention center.

When you enter the convention center, take a moment to look around and identify the closest exits in case of an emergency.

Emergency medical assistance is available in the convention center. If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, please call 213-765-4605. Emergency Medical Technicians will be dispatched to you. The LACC discourages dialing 9-1-1 directly to ensure that first responders are given detailed and accurate location information.

Medical assistance is also available at the First Aid Room, located in the South Lobby next to the escalators leading to the parking garage and Kentia Hall.

If an emergency happens on the convention floor, please identify your location by the closest state sign or mic number. Notify the closest Sergeant-at-Arms.

In a non-medical emergency, you will likely hear an announcement with directions about whether you should remain in the hall or exit the building.

If the fire alarm sounds, please move calmly to the nearest exit and leave the building.

If there is an earthquake, cover your head and neck with your arms and crawl under a table if you are near one. Please shelter in place inside the LACC. Stay away from glass. Do not go outside.

You may notice some changes from prior years in how you enter the Convention. For example, there will be entry checkpoints that include modern security screenings that we believe will have a minimum impact on entry into the Convention. And you may notice more security staff in the area. These steps are to promote a safe and secure Convention.

The security scanner systems are safe for people with medical devices and pregnant people, and they are ADA-compliant. An alternate security lane will be available for those who choose not to go through security scanners. Of course, weapons and other dangerous devices will not be permitted into the Convention spaces.

You can find more information on emergency preparedness in the delegates guide and on the convention app. Have a safe, productive and fun convention!
