Information brochure displays from Choose Chicago are available in the following locations:

  • South Building, Level 1 at Gate 4 and on Level 2.5 near the Business Center
  • North Building, Level 2 near the Gift Shop
  • West Building, Level 1 at the Transportation Center
  • Lakeside Center on Level 2

Language Accessibility

Convention attendees in need of language interpretation or translation can request onsite accommodations by going to the Visitor Information Desk located in the exhibit space, in Hall B of the North Building.

There are wheelchair-accessible first aid stations in each building. These stations are fully equipped and include automated external defibrillators (AEDs). The first aid station closest to AFSCME’s Exhibit Hall is on Level 2.5 on the Grand Concourse.

All medical care is provided under the guidance of the McCormick Place Medical Director, who is board-certified in emergency medicine. Stations are staffed by Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers.

Two hospitals are located within minutes of McCormick Place. City ambulances will be called to transport patients when needed.

Emergency medical assistance is available at McCormick Place, by calling 312-791-6060.

McCormick Place has 92 AEDs mounted in highly visible cabinets throughout the buildings. Anyone who has taken a CPR/AED course can use them.

Incident Reporting

If Fire, Medical or Police assistance is needed: 

  • DIAL Extension 6060 from a house or exhibit booth telephone. 
  • DIAL 312-791-6060 from an outside phone line (including the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel.)

Please refrain from calling 911. If you do call 911, also call Security at the numbers above. 

We are fully equipped to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The hall is accessible to all delegates. On-stage professionals will interpret the proceedings in sign language. Upon request, each hotel will provide accessible rooms. Scooters are available in three locations: as you disembark from the shuttle buses, at the entrance of Hyatt Place McCormick and by the escalators before entering the exhibit space. Other special needs of accommodation are available upon request at the Visitor Information Desk.

Child care services are provided during the 47th International Convention, available at McCormick Place in rooms N126 and N127 from Saturday, August 15, through Friday, August 21, during Convention hours only.  

AFSCME has contracted with ACCENT, a licensed, bonded and insured quality child care provider. ACCENT staff will be providing age-appropriate activities. In order to participate, you must complete all forms onsite upon arrival.

Friends of Bill W.

Friends of Bill W. will meet on Sunday, August 16, at McCormick Place in Room N135 from 5:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Chicago Alcoholics Anonymous has a 24/7 helpline offering telephone support for individuals struggling with alcohol use: 312-346-1475.

Calls are answered by a network of recovering alcoholics. Support group locations can be found at www.chicagoaa.org.

The Visitor Information Desk in the AFSCME Exhibit Hall serves as the location for Lost & Found. Please do not leave your personal belongings unattended. Be sure to take your Delegate Kit and all materials with you when you leave the General Session each day.

Shuttle Bus Service

Shuttle buses run from Saturday, August 15, through Friday, August 21, between official Convention hotels and McCormick Place.

Buses will travel to McCormick Place in the morning and return to the hotels after each day’s events.

The buses will run between McCormick Place and these hotels:

  • Hilton Chicago
  • Hyatt Regency Chicago
  • Palmer House Hilton

Information on area restaurants and recreational activities is available from the concierge desk in your hotel or from the Visitor Information Desk at McCormick Place.

A food court is located on level 2 of the North Building.

Chicago’s very own Connie’s Pizza features Italian favorites like soups, pasta, salads and sandwiches. Located on level 2 of the North Building. Open daily.

The workers at McCormick Place Starbucks locations are proud members of UNITE HERE Local 1. We encourage you to support them with confidence! There are three within the Convention Center: concourse of the West Building; level 2.5 of the South Building; and level 3 show floor of the North Building. A fourth location is at the intersection of Cermak Road and Michigan Avenue just west of the campus and connected via the Hiltons at McCormick Place skybridge.

Affiliates who wish to reserve rooms for meetings and caucuses may do so at the Visitor Information Desk. Rooms are available on a limited basis due to space limitations.  

“Mamava” lactation suites can be found in McCormick Place Convention Center at the following locations:  

  • Lakeside Center, Level 2, by the Gift Shop 
  • North/South Level 2.5 across from Starbucks 
  • West Level 1 near the Main Information Desk on Indiana Avenue

The all-gender restrooms are located on level 2 of the North Building, and inside Hall B. Additional all-gender restrooms are located in the northeast and southwest corner of McCormick Place.
