We are excited to welcome you and thousands of other delegates to Chicago, Ill., for AFSCME’s 47th International Convention.

As we begin celebrations of AFSCME’s 90th anniversary, there’s no better city to host our convention than Chicago. And there’s no better theme than “Built for This Moment!” to describe our union’s attitude right now.

Workers risked it all in Chicago to fight back against greedy industrialists. From the Haymarket Affair and bloody protests for an eight-hour workday and better working conditions, to Chicago’s stockyards, railyards and beyond — the proud fight for dignity at work is carried forward today by AFSCME Council 31.

Council 31 represents cultural workers, health care workers, educators, city and state workers and more. These AFSCME members keep the state running every single day.

This year we are facing attacks at a level unlike any in our history, but we are truly “Built for this Moment!” Our Convention in Chicago will prove that, as we mobilize with renewed energy heading into the midterm elections.

When Convention is not in session, we invite you to take advantage of all that our host city has to offer. We encourage you to catch a blues set or a ball game, take in the city’s stunning architecture and enjoy some world-class food.

We can’t wait to get started.

Welcome to Chicago!
