AFSCME family, get ready for The Big Easy!
Our 48th International Convention will be in New Orleans, a vibrant city on the Gulf of Mexico known for Creole traditions, Cajun food, soulful jazz, resilient people and a unique blend of French, Spanish, African, Caribbean and Native American cultures.
New Orleans was announced as the 2028 host city on Friday, the last day of the 47th Convention in Chicago.
New Orleans has a strong union history, including the 1892 General Strike, a successful four-day work stoppage where a multiracial, multiunion group of more than 20,000 workers fought for and won better hours and pay.
Today, New Orleans city workers are members of AFSCME Local 2349 (Council 17).
