Facilities & Services

Child Care

Complimentary child care services will be provided to the children of AFSCME delegates and alternates. Licensed, bonded and insured providers will offer services. Only children between the ages of 3 months and 12 years will be accepted. Child care will be available daily from Saturday, August 10, to Friday, August 16, during Convention hours, during registration and while the Convention is in session. More information and registration forms can be found here.

Delegates with Disabilities

The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) is fully equipped to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The hall is accessible to all delegates. On-stage professionals will interpret the proceedings in sign language. Upon request, each hotel will provide accessible rooms. Scooters will be available as you disembark from the shuttle buses at the LACC. Other special needs accommodations are available upon request.

First Aid & Medical Emergencies

Emergency medical assistance is available at the LACC by contacting LACC's 24-hour command center for any reason, from any telephone, at 213-765-4605. The LACC discourages dialing 911 directly to ensure that first responders are given detailed and accurate location information.

Communicate the medical emergency and clearly and calmly state the following:
- Who you are.
- Where you are located.
- Who needs assistance.
- The nature of the medical emergency.

LACC Command will dispatch first aid and/or contact 911 for EMTs or an ambulance.
- If you are trained and qualified, take appropriate first aid measures.
- Do not move an injured guest.
- Remain at the scene until assistance arrives.

Medical assistance is also available at the First Aid Room, located in the South Lobby next to the escalators leading to the parking garage and Kentia Hall.

Hand sanitizer is available throughout the LACC and masks are available at the Information Booth.

Food Options

Sandwiches, coffee, soft drinks and other food items are available for purchase from vendors in the South Hall of the LACC. Fast food options can be found outside the center.

Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

There are two gender-neutral restrooms located inside the LACC:

  • South Building – located outside Hall G, Level 1.
  • West Building – located near Room 510, Level 2.

Information Booth

The AFSCME Information Booth is in the Exhibit Hall, located in Hall G of the LACC. AFSCME staff will be there to answer your questions and provide directions. The Information Booth will also have headsets available to members who need Spanish interpretation. If you need help downloading the app, please seek assistance at the Information Booth.

Lactation Room

The LACC has a lactation room for nursing mothers — located in the First Aid room in the South Lobby (next to the escalators leading to the parking garage and Kentia Hall). The rooms have electrical outlets and a sink.

Lost & Found

The Information Booth in the AFSCME Exhibit Hall serves as the location for Lost & Found. Please do not leave your personal belongings unattended. Be sure to take your Delegate Kit and all materials with you when you leave the General Session each day.

Prayer/Meditation Room

A prayer/meditation room will be offered to delegates, alternates and guests at the LACC in Room 508A, starting Saturay, August 10, to Friday, August 16. Please go to the Visitor Information Desk in the South Hall Lobby for information about houses of worship in the area.

Security

All attendees – delegates, affiliate staff, and guests – must wear their badges to gain admittance to the Convention space. You may notice some changes from prior years in how you enter the Convention. For example, there will be entry checkpoints that include modern security screenings that we believe will have a minimum impact on entry into the Convention. And you may notice more security staff in the area. These steps are to promote a safe and secure Convention.

The security scanner systems are safe for people with medical devices and pregnant people, and they are ADA-compliant. An alternate security lane will be available for those who choose not to go through security scanners. Of course, weapons and other dangerous devices will not be permitted into the Convention spaces.

Shuttle Bus Service

Complimentary shuttle bus service will be provided between the hotels and the LACC. Shuttles will pick up and drop off on Figueroa Drive at South Hall. The shuttle schedule is subject to change. Updated information can be found on the 2024 Convention App.
