There are a lot of strict rules and regulations when it comes to union finances, which is why there will be two workshops dedicated to financial management during the 47th International Convention.

If you handle your union’s books or you’re interested in learning more about the process, these two workshops are for you.

The first is called “AFSCME Financial Standards Code.” This workshop provides an overview of our union’s go-to document on financial oversight. The code is one of the most comprehensive sets of financial standards in the labor movement, and it provides step-by-step procedures for union leaders to manage their finances.

The second workshop is titled, “Financial Situations Best Practices,” which will cover the smartest ways to handle various financial situations that may arise for union officers. Topics will include reporting requirements, fiscal responsibilities and sound business procedures.

Workshops are held on two different days during the Convention — on Monday, Aug. 17, after the General Session, and again on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 7:45 a.m.-9:15 a.m., before the General Session.

Check the Convention app or signs for exact room locations.
